2008 Beijing Olympics Maps

08/08/08 is here and that means the opening cermonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics are upon us. Catholicgauze hopes for a safe Olympics and an opening up of the People's Republic of China to more freedoms (though this seems unlikely).

Geographers celebrate the Olympics with maps. The Map Room links to the BBC's map of the Olympics built on Microsoft's Live Earth engine. The official Olympics website has an online GIS interactive map of Beijing featuring everything from Olympic sites to churches, movie theaters, to universities and much more.

Let the games begin!

Nice post. Btw did u know that the ancient Olympics captured the imaginations of the Greeks for more than a millennium until a Christianized Rome put a stop on the competitions in the fourth century AD. But the Olympic ideal did not die. Anyways which country do u think shall win the maximum gold medals?

Yes, you are right about that. As for my completely guess in the dark on medals:

USA
Russia
China
Germany
