Best Places to Drive in America

Allstate has released Allstate America's Best Drivers Report (PDF of list)which lists cities by the longest period of time between car accidents for the average driver.

The top five are
  • Sioux Falls, South Dakota (13.7 years between accidents)
  • Fort Collins, Colorado
  • Flint, Michigan
  • Warren, Michigan
  • Hunstville, Alabama
The bottom five are
  • Jersey City, New Jersey
  • Glendale, California
  • Elizabeth, New Jersey
  • Washington, District of Columbia
  • Newark, New Jersey (5.2 years between accidents)
The coastal areas come off the worse. The greater DC area of Washington, Alexandria, and Arlington are horrible driving death traps. However, nothing beats New Jersey, the land where governors who press government control of everything speed at speeds above ninety-miles per hour while not wearing a seat belt.

For a good place to live, try the interior of the country. Sioux Falls has already been noted by having good disaster response. So when you do get into a bad accident the emergency services will have no problems communicating your need for help to the ambulance.

In Boston, driving is a zero-sum competition. It makes life interesting. Strange that Boston wasn't even listed in the study.
