I've always wondered what I am flying over. The only thing I've been able to identify are soccer stadiums (Cardiff, Wembley, Stamford Bridge, Toyota Park) or large landmasses (like "that must be Iceland"). Do you check the airplane's route beforehand so you know what to look for?
I knew the general route just doing the great circle method. However, after Remote Sensing class and playing with Google Earth its fairly easy to identify stuff.
