Geography Quiz 5: Geopolitics' Impact on Irrigation

I remember a television special in which Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang went to a space station.  Towards the end the group of kids are looking down on Earth and one states that borders do not exist on the physical globe and what a wonderful world it would be if the political geography matched the "real" geography.

The below Earth-snapshot disproves the children's version of the world.

For this quiz a) tell how it is possible for such a sharp change in agricultural lands in general terms and b) (feel free to turn on labels and zoom around) describe with details what made this change possible.

Geography Quiz 4: Out of Place Sioux Quartzite

Sioux Quartzite is quartz-type rock formed 542 million years ago to 2,500 million years ago.  It was formed at the present-intersection of South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa.  The most famous deposit of it is in Pipestone, Minnesota.  Sioux Quartzite is found in massive above and below ground formations throughout the area.

However, small rocks and boulders of Sioux Quartzite can be found all along the Kansas River in northeastern Kansas over 400 miles away from Pipestone.  How is this possible?

Geography Quiz 3: Religious Persecution and Tolerance

The above is the site of tragedy and triumph.  It, along with other sites like it, were the locations of what I feel was the biggest federal, state, and local religious persecution in the United States in the twentieth century.

The place is populated entirely by a Christian denomination.  They are currently found throughout the upper interior especially in the states of North and South Dakota.  They were once all located in the United States but government and public persecution forced all to flee to Canada.  It was only decades later that a sizable minority moved back to the United States.

Who are these people and why were they persecuted?  Leave your answer in the comments and see if you are right!

Geography Quiz 1

I have decided to add a new feature to the blog: Geographic Travels Geography Quizzes.  I will attempt to give greater depth to geography by offering more than just "what is the capital of x" questions.  Answers will be posted sometime the next day in the comments section.  Feel free to post your guess.

First Question:  The facilities below are along North Korea's East China Sea coast.  There are smaller ones of these in South Korea.
